OnMetal Global Label Mini 103517 RFID Tag for Metal Surfaces

identytag OnMetal Global Label Mini 103517 is a compact industrial UHF RFID tag designed for the identification and tracking of equipment, tools, metal containers, reusable transport items, components and other assets with metal surfaces.

The tag is specifically engineered for direct application to metal, where standard RFID labels may experience significantly reduced read range and unstable performance. Its compact size of 54 × 13 × 1.8 mm makes it suitable for assets with limited space available for labeling.

Compact industrial UHF RFID tag for marking metal equipment, tools, containers and fixed assets for automated inventory and asset tracking.

Custom Printing and RFID Encoding

Model 103517 is available with customized printing and pre-programmed RFID encoding according to project requirements.

The white polyester surface can be customized with:

  • asset or inventory number;
  • equipment serial number;
  • Code 128 barcode;
  • Data Matrix code;
  • QR code;
  • text and service information;
  • company logo.

Printing Examples and Recommended Marking Parameters

The 54 × 13 mm format allows RFID identification to be combined with visual and machine-readable marking. Depending on the application, the tag can carry an asset number, serial number, linear barcode, Data Matrix code and other operational information.

Example layout for printing Code 128, Data Matrix ECC200 and a human-readable identifier on a compact 54 x 13 mm RFID label. The image shows practical element dimensions for thermal transfer printing at approximately 200 dpi.

For thermal transfer printing on a printer with a resolution of approximately 200 dpi, the following dimensions can be used as practical guidelines:

  • Code 128 — approximately 42–44 mm wide and 7–8 mm high;
  • Data Matrix ECC200 — approximately 5 × 5 mm or 6 × 6 mm;
  • human-readable identifier — positioned according to the selected layout and font size;
  • combined identification — RFID + barcode + Data Matrix + human-readable number.

These dimensions are indicative and depend on the printer model, ribbon, print settings, encoded data length and scanner performance. Before volume deployment, a test print and verification with the actual scanners and RFID readers are recommended.

The white polyester surface is suitable for thermal transfer printing, allowing durable customized identification for industrial use. At the same time, a unique electronic identifier can be encoded in the RFID chip. This enables one tag to support several identification methods: RFID reading, barcode or 2D code scanning, and visual identification.

NXP UCODE 9xm RFID Chip

OnMetal Global Label Mini 103517 uses the NXP UCODE 9xm RFID chip. Its flexible EPC memory structure and additional user memory make the tag suitable not only for storing a unique identifier, but also for more advanced asset tracking, traceability and maintenance applications.

  • Reserved Memory — 64 bit;
  • EPC Memory — 128 / 256 / 496 bit;
  • User Memory — 752 / 624 / 384 bit depending on the selected EPC configuration;
  • supports EPCglobal Class 1 Gen 2 and ISO/IEC 18000-6C;
  • passive UHF RFID technology with no internal power source.

Applications of OnMetal Global Label Mini 103517

The tag is particularly suitable for applications requiring compact and reliable identification of metal assets:

  • industrial equipment identification;
  • fixed asset inventory and tracking;
  • tool and fixture management;
  • metal container and returnable asset identification;
  • component and assembly identification;
  • equipment and spare part traceability;
  • maintenance and repair asset tracking;
  • RFID inventory in production and warehouse environments.

RFID + Barcode + Data Matrix

The compact 54 × 13 mm format makes it possible to combine RFID with traditional automatic identification technologies on the same asset label.

Depending on the layout and project requirements, the surface can include a compact Data Matrix, linear barcode, unique asset number and other information. This is particularly useful in mixed environments where some processes use RFID readers while others still rely on standard barcode scanners or mobile devices.

A test print and read verification with the actual barcode scanners and RFID readers are recommended before full-scale deployment.

Automated Asset Inventory

Using OnMetal Global Label Mini 103517 can help organizations move from manual asset checks to faster and more automated RFID-based inventory processes.

Each tag can be linked to an equipment or asset record in an asset management, ERP, EAM or inventory system. The digital asset record can contain:

  • equipment name and category;
  • serial number and asset ID;
  • current location;
  • responsible department or employee;
  • movement history;
  • technical condition;
  • maintenance and repair records;
  • inventory history and verification results.

RFID technology allows assets to be identified without direct line-of-sight scanning of each individual code, which is especially useful when working with large numbers of equipment items, tools, containers or other industrial assets.

RFID Tag Selection and Testing

The performance of an RFID identification system depends not only on the RFID tag itself, but also on the asset material, tag placement, antenna orientation, required read range and operating environment.

For this reason, practical testing on the customer’s actual assets is recommended before implementation. Typical tests include selecting the tag position, checking RFID read performance, evaluating print quality and confirming that the identification process is convenient for personnel.

Vostok-IT provides support with RFID tag selection, printing and encoding equipment, mobile and fixed RFID readers, and integration of RFID identification into asset tracking, inventory, maintenance and equipment management systems.
